Summary
The main focus of this class was drafting a lesson for a teaching demonstration we would perform in class. Every student had performed their teaching demonstration by the end of the semester, myself included. I was tasked with creating a lesson on whatever I'd like to teach. My professor emphasized experimenting with our lessons as much as possible, as long as it related to Creative Writing. I taught my lesson using a student-centered approach, discussing a Shakespearean sonnet and taking an experimental approach with a poetry blackout activity. There were some faults throughout my lesson; however, this assignment serves as the final lesson draft of a teaching demonstration that I would actually perform in a classroom. |
Reflection
I was very intimidated to get up in front of the class to teach my lesson. Overall, I feel that I did a great job during my teaching demonstration. I will always want to put my students first, which is why I took such a strong student-centered approach to my lesson. I asked the students questions about the sonnet, and they read it aloud, and centered my lesson on the questions they had about it. Essentially, I acted as a student myself and asked probing questions about the sonnet to encourage discussion. Of course, I could've done things better, like discussing what a sonnet is and its context, and allocating more time to the blackout activity at the end. |
